Dorothy M. Sowansky, 81, of Unity Township, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at her home. She was born Jan. 6, 1936, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Shelby J. and Mary E. (Clark) Goodman. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Whitney, and the Whitney Womens Community Club. Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, knitting and quilt making. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James Goodman and John "Jack" Goodman; and her sister, Beverly Goodman Tosh. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Joseph J. Sowansky Sr.; her son, Dr. Joseph J. Sowansky Jr., OD, and wife, Rose, of Meadville; her daughter, Lori Ann Sowansky, of Unity Township; two grandchildren, Stephen Patrick and Jessica Marie; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be private. Friends are invited to a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Whitney, with the Rev. Peter Augustine Pierjok, O.S.B., as celebrant. Private interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township. LEO M.
