Eleanor (Downs) Cronin passed away Sunday, December 4, 2016 in Rockville, MD.  She was born May 30, 1924 in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Francis and Mary (Rocbeck) Downs.  She was married to Raymond J. Cronin and the widow of Harry Kearns.  She had eight children: Virginia Roddy, Patricia Cronin, Louise Walters, James Cronin, Sr., Tim Cronin (deceased), Gerry Cronin, Elaine Seidling and Joseph Cronin.  She has 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.  Eleanor’s siblings: brothers, Francis and Frederick Downs (deceased), survived by brother, Lee Downs, Audubon and sister, Mary Palestini, Philadelphia.  Additionally she had 16 nieces and nephews.  She had numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Latrobe and the surrounding towns and communities.  She also had step-children who cared for her very much.  She had previously lived in Greensburg and Bentleyville, then moved in 2001 to Gaithersburg, MD to live with her son Joseph, daughter-in-law Rose and granddaughters Dominique and Erika.  While living there she suffered a heart attack which resulted in her transfer to Shady Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she lived until her demise.  Eleanor worked at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe for 23 years performing various secretarial duties to include Development Office Services and the Secretary to Director of the Athletic Office.  She was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church, Gaithersburg, MD.  Friends will be received from 3 to 7 PM Friday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Saturday in Saint Vincent Basilica, Latrobe.  Interment will follow in Saint Vincent Cemetery, Latrobe.  www.bachafh.com
