Robert L. “Gunny” Gunther, 73, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born January 3, 1945 in Greensburg, a son of the late Clarence and Margaret (Long) Gunther. Prior to retirement Bob worked at I.T.L.S. as a NDE nuclear inspector. And previously worked at Elliott Company. He was a paratrooper in the Army with the 82nd Airborne 325th infantry division. He served in the Dominican Republic civil war reinforcement. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, cars and his family and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Peggy Nothwang and Shirley Pierce; and his brother-in-law and best friend, Al Clemens. He is survived by his wife, Jaunita R. (Jones) Gunther, son, Robert Gunther and wife Peterina of Latrobe and son/grandson, William E.S. Gunther at home; a step daughter, Nina Stewart; step son, Robert “Bobby” Stewart both of Greensburg; 2 grandsons, Robert and Samuel Gunther; his brother, Charles “Chucky” Gunther and wife Patty of Greensburg; and sister, Barbara Clemens of Jeannette. Also surviving are brother-in-law, Art Pierce, mother-in-law, Ruth (Jones) Dickson and family, many nieces and nephews and his faithful fur friends, Otis and Marley. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Leo M. Bacha Funeral Home, Inc., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity where funeral services will be held at 9:30 AM Wednesday with Pastor Richard Ziegenfus officiating. Interment will follow at 12:30 PM in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. Bob’s wife would like to give a special thank you to Bridges Hospice, Lauren, Tara and staff for all the help and support, niece Barbie Todd for the extra hand caring for Bob, to Patti Yasurek, Kim Lanatovich, Jamie Gunter and Sue Shoemaker for “adult-sitting” whenever needed, and to Dan and Karen Hewitt for caring for William during this difficult time.
