Dr. Stephen J. Orbon, 75, of Greensburg, died Thursday, February 14, 2019 in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. He was born September 19, 1943 in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late John and Rosealia (Shotts) Orbon. Dr. Orbon was a graduate and valedictorian of East Huntingdon High School, a graduate of Wabash College, and received his Master’s degree and PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to retirement he had been a material science engineer for Westinghouse for 41 years. He was a member of St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, South Greensburg. He was also a member of the National Chrysanthemum Society. Dr. Orbon loved animals, enjoyed donating to the Animal Friend of Westmoreland, and had fond memories of growing up in Tarrs. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Z. (Vince) Orbon; his daughter, Diana L. Orbon-Slider and husband Crist Slider, of Southwest Greensburg; five grandchildren, Kristen, Amber Lee (Brian), Joshua, Brianna, and Nicholas; four great-grandchildren, Dannielynn, Madeline, Peyton, and Grace; his sister, Rebecca Snyder and husband Vance, and their son, Dr. Orbon’s godson, Kevin Snyder, all of Calif.; and his granddog, Bandit. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 PM Monday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. Prayers will begin at 9:30 AM Tuesday in the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass to be celebrated at 10 AM in St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, South Greensburg. Interment will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.
