L. Jane Smail

L. Jane Smail, 88, a resident of Lakeland, Florida for 20 years, formerly of Greensburg, died Saturday, July 7, 2018 in Select Specialty Hospital, Latrobe. Jane was born June 28, 1930 in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Victor E. and Ruth (Hughes) Herring.  Prior to retirement she had been employed as a secretary for the City of Greensburg and as an associate in the gift shop at Westmoreland Hospital.  She attended First Presbyterian Church in Lakeland, Florida and formerly was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Greensburg. Jane was a member of the Red Hat Ladies Society in Florida, Westmoreland Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and Hose Co. #3 Ladies Auxiliary.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband George P. Smail on July 26, 1994, her daughter Linda A. Uhrinek on March 12, 1993 and her son-in-law Mark T. Hughes on October 26, 2007.  She is survived by her children: Judy McChesney (John) of Greensburg, George Bradley Smail (Lynn) of Middletown, DE, Diane Holbrook (Douglas) of Latrobe, Donald Smail (Suzanne) of Smithton, Lisa Hughes of Pittsford, NY, Thomas Smail (Nancy) of Greensburg, Kenneth Smail (Kim) of Tampa, FL, and Amy Cornell (Keith) of McDonough, GA; 16 Grandchildren: Bethany Uhrinek, Nathan Payne, Rachel Holbrook Koontz, Bradley Payne, Lucas Holbrook, Justin Hughes, Ian Smail, Erik Hughes, Tyler Smail, Chelsea Smail, Hannah Smail, Katelynn Smail, Sara Smail, Claire Cornell, Abby Cornell and Ava Smail; 6 great grandchildren: Alexander Payne, Landon Holbrook, Trevor Raupach, Lia Hughes, Christian Payne and Jason Hughes;  a brother: Edmund Herring (Helen) of Lakeland, FL; a nephew Scott Herring; a niece Laurie Smith; 6 great nephews and one great niece.   Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg.  A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday in the funeral home with Rev. Martin Wright officiating. Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Blackburn Center, P.O. Box 398, Greensburg, PA 15601
