Bill Kowinski Obituary

Bill Kowinski, 96, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 28, 2022, at Villa Angela at St. Anne Home with his loving family at his side.  He was born December 30, 1925, in United, a son of the late Frank and Catharine Ellis Kowinski.

Bill attended Hurst High School in Mt. Pleasant Township.  He was a World War II veteran who served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946 in the South Pacific aboard the battleship USS Pennsylvania.  Following his return to civilian life, he furthered his education in Radio and TV Servicing in Chicago, IL.  He was employed by the Elliott Company of Jeannette in the Quality Assurance Department as a Quality Control Engineer and retired with 36 years of service.  Bill achieved his goal of being retired as many years as he worked.  He was a certified instructor of ultrasonic testing of metals.  He was a member of the American Society of Non-Destructive Testing and the American Society of Welding Metals.

In May of 1992, Bill received The Outstanding Citizen Award from the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 56 of the City of Greensburg for aiding an officer in a dangerous situation.

He loved his family above all.  He enjoyed electronics, traveling, gardening, and a bit of cooking.  In 2004, he was a Tribune Review recipe contest winner for his lemon pepper pasta recipe.

Bill was a life member of the Slavonic American Home Association in United, the Hilltop Social Club, the VFW Post No. 33, Greensburg, and the Amvets Post No. 88, Greensburg where he also served as the adjutant for the Western District of PA.  He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Greensburg.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter, of Greensburg, and Frank, of United; and brothers-in-law, Pat Pace and Tony Pace, both of Greensburg.  Surviving are his beloved wife of 73 years, Carmella Pace Kowinski; two daughters, Carmen and husband, former mayor Karl Eisaman, and Charlotte Kowinski-Zider; a sister, Beatrice Nitkiewicz; and many nieces and nephews.
