David E. Smith, 79, a lifelong resident of Youngwood, died Monday, August 2, 2021, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born July 2, 1942, in his home in Youngwood, a son of the late John F. Jr. and Ethel Mabel (Brink) Smith. He was a 1961 graduate of Hempfield Area High School. David was an Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Prior to retirement he had worked for 45 years as an inspector in quality control for DME Corporation, Youngwood. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in New Stanton. David was an avid bowler and belonged to several leagues. He was an excellent woodworker and furniture maker, having made furniture for several family reunions. He also loved restoring cars. His favorite was his 1953 Ford pickup. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Margaret L. “Peggy” (Burns) Smith; his son Daniel Allen Smith (Beth), of Vero Beach, FL; two grandchildren, Dani Smith (Jason Cycak), of Harrison City, and Samuel Smith (Karilynn), of Biloxi, MS; his siblings, Daisy I. Reynolds-Aller, of Acme, Tootsie Wakely (Jim), of Michigan, John Smith (Sue), Linda Bradish, Susie Newcamp (Mark), and Sally Sell (Jeff), all of Greensburg; two special little girls, Ashtyn and Abrianna; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 3 to 7 PM Wednesday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg.
