Dr. E. Darryl Hill

Dr. E. Darryl Hill, 71, of Unity Township, departed this life on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at UPMC Shadyside. Darryl was born in New Kensington on September 29, 1949 and embodied the values of growing up in a close-knit neighborhood filled with friends and family. Darryl attended Boston University where he shined on the football field and was named team co-captain in 1970. Darryl played in the NFL for the New York Giants and Houston Oilers, then moved on to strategic consulting where he found his passion for medicine. Upon graduation from the Ohio School of Podiatric Medicine, Dr. Hill began a podiatry practice that spanned more than three decades across western Pennsylvania, including offices in Indiana, Greensburg, and Meyersdale. He was a devout Catholic and member of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg.  

Darryl had an immense personality and presence, lighting up any room he walked into and making those who met him all the better for having done so. Darryl would be the first to spark a debate or weave a tale, often reminiscing fondly on treasured stories from his remarkable life. Though his family and friends know the stories all too well, they will always miss hearing them from him. Darryl was preceded in death by his mother, Stella (Swierczewski) Cisek (Robert); and his son, Jason Hill.  He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Belch) Hill; son, Michael Hill (Cara); daughter Katelyn Hill (Gregory Kemerer & puppy dog Gunner); sister, Jessica Mieszkowski (Buddy); his cousin who was more like a brother, Mark Galie (Katina); a multitude of beloved family and friends; and thousands of patients who he has provided care for over the last 35 years.  A private visitation will be at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 AM Tuesday, June 1, 2021 in Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, 300 N. Main St., Greensburg.  Please go directly to the church.  Interment will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery, Indiana.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Bernard Cemetery, 200 Clairvaux Drive, Indiana, PA 15701.  www.bachafh.com
