Olga Olenick Obituary

Olga A. (Bindas) Olenick, 92, of Forbes Road, passed on Tuesday, December 29, 2020.  She was born May 18, 1928 in Perryopolis, a daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (Bartko) Bindas.  She retired from Westmoreland County as a supervisor in the Domestic Relations office.  Olga was a member of St. Bartholomew Parish, Crabtree and was a past member of St. Mary Church, Forbes Road, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society.  Olga’s parents emigrated from Slovakia and she never lost sight of her roots.  She fluently spoke Slovak, cooked delicious ethnic food, and practiced all the customs she learned as a young child, later sharing them with her own children.  She made two trips to Slovakia, spending time in the remote country village of her parents.  Having a zest and natural curiosity for life, Olga enjoyed extensively traveling with her husband Gabe throughout the United States and Europe.  She had a strong work ethic and could creatively solve any problem.  Olga deeply appreciated the hard work and sacrifices her parents made to provide a good life for her and ensured that she did the same for her children.  She loved nothing more than to spend time with her family.  In addition, Olga was a talented cook, baker, and seamstress.  She had a great eye for decorating and design.  She loved to learn new skills, including knitting, crocheting, and cross-stitching, and was quite accomplished in making floral arrangements, baskets, and wreaths.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gabriel “Gabe” Olenick, to whom she was married for 67 years; her son, Gerry Olenick; her son-in-law, Larry Franzi; her brothers, Nicholas Bindas and Joseph Bindas; and her sister, Mary Dunlop.  She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Olenick Franzi, of Greensburg; her son, Gabriel “Gabe” Olenick and his wife, Susie, of Greensburg; and several nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.  There will be no public visitation.  Family and friends are invited to a funeral mass to be celebrated at 10 AM Saturday, January 2, 2021 in St. Bartholomew Parish, 2538 Route 119, Crabtree with the Rev. Justin Matro, OSB as celebrant.  Please go directly to the church.  Private entombment will be in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.  Please be prepared to adhere to all current health guidelines, including face masks and social distancing.  LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg is assisting with arrangements. www.bachafh.com
