Robert J. Verscharen

Robert J. “Bob or Bobby” Verscharen, 39, of Latrobe, died Friday, January 8, 2021 in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital.  He was born March 9, 1981 in Latrobe. He attended Hempfield High School and graduated from Clearwater Central Catholic High School in Clearwater, FL. He graduated from the University of South Florida with a 4.0 GPA in History. Bob had a heart of gold and a kind and gentle soul. He loved being outdoors, was an avid fisherman and had a green thumb for gardening. In addition, as a history buff, he honed his craft by collecting antiques as well as restoring and selling ancient coins for which he ran a successful online business for several years.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Vera Schmidt and August and Kathryn Verscharen and his uncle, Edward Schmidt. Bob is survived by his parents, Robert “Bob” and Carole (Schmidt) Verscharen of Ligonier; sisters Christie Verscharen Scifo (husband Joe) of Tampa, FL and Kimberly Verscharen (fiancée Art) of Greensburg; nieces and nephew Kaely Verscharen, Lily and Luca Scifo; and multiple aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation, funeral liturgy and interment were private.  A memorial mass will be scheduled on a later date.
